Vladimir Matias

Dr. Vladimir Matias is the Founder and President of iBeam Materials, Inc. in Santa Fe, NM, USA.

Vladimir Matias is a world-leading expert in Ion-Beam Crystal Alignment technology. Having attained his degrees from Caltech (BS) and Stanford (PhD), he has 30 years of experience with advanced film technology, both within the commercial sector and at Los Alamos National Laboratory supporting the development of commercial technologies. Vlad and his team were also recognized by two national R&D 100 awards (2003 and 2010).

Vladimir Matias has over 150 technical publications in peer reviewed journals, including several book chapters and review papers, about a dozen patents issued (three of which are currently used in manufacturing) and another dozen patent applications pending. He is an active member of the Materials Research Society, American Physical Society and American Vacuum Society. Over the last 30 years VM has given presentations at over 80 technical conferences and meetings, including about 40 invited talks. He has organized several technical conferences, including initiating a number of new symposia within the Materials Research Society, chaired an MRS Meeting, has been on several US government review panels, and international conference and journal advisory boards.

As team leader at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Vladimir worked closely with industry in technology transfer, and has been involved in technology development from initial scientific breakthroughs through to manufacturing and commercialization. He has extensive experience in applied R&D and in what it takes to bring new materials to market.
