Currently, Professor Wei serves as Vice-President of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and Editor-in-Chief of Color Research & Application, a top-tier journal in the field of color imaging. Color Science 101 Abstract: Color is crucial to the performance of display systems and the user experience. Effective color management not only enhances the visual quality of images and videos but also improves user immersion and comfort. This short course will provide a systematic introduction to the fundamentals of color science, covering core concepts such as color matching functions, color difference, color appearance, chromatic adaptation, color reproduction, and color measurement, helping participants develop a comprehensive understanding of the physical and psychological attributes of color. At the same time, the course will integrate practical applications across various multimedia display and imaging systems—including traditional display devices, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), high dynamic range (HDR) displays, digital photography, and virtual production—to delve into the implementation and optimization of color science in different scenarios. Additionally, the course will address challenges faced by novel display systems in the field of color science and share the latest technological developments, equipping participants with insights into industry trends and broadening their professional perspectives. |
