Breaking Down the Display & Optics Driving the Smart-glass Enabled Future Abstract: Smart-glasses have exploded as a consumer electronics product category in recent years, primarily due to the many emerging Chinese brands leveraging the local manufacturing capability and expertise. In this talk, we examine a specific subsection of the smart-glass market we call "display glasses”, a category including birdbath glasses, heads-up displays and true AR glasses which all leverage information display components direct to the users eye. We will analyze the various hardware strategies of some of the most successful product companies like Meta, Xreal and Rokid, while also discussing the merits of the LCOS, OLED or microLED displays included with each. Finally, we will look at the overall product strengths and discuss the true value proposition of these devices - are they technical toys, or truly the next revolution in computing? |
